Land & Wave Ltd, Swanage, Dorset
Full Time Seasonal
£22,500 pro rata
Closing date 10th December 2022
Contract: March – October 2023
The Role of an operations assistant
Are you methodical, organised and great at planning stuff?
We’re looking for someone to support our Operations team at our lovely outdoor adventure company in Swanage, Dorset.
You’ll work in a big friendly team of outdoor professionals and play a key role in making sure instructors are in the right place at the right time. You’ll manage instructors’ online diaries and timesheets and ensure every activity is staffed with the correctly qualified person.
Top Comms
Our activities can be at the mercy of the weather, so you’ll be the person to help make up-to-the minute staff and activity changes and keep staff informed so they don’t get grumpy!
To be really good at this job, you need to be organised, love a list and enjoy working systematically. It’s all about logistics.
This is an office-based role, using a pretty cool staffing and diary system called ‘Activity Cloud’. It’s easy once you get the hang of it.
Day-to-Day Details
You’ll need to get to grips with our outdoor activity ratios, qualification requirements and who does what – so some knowledge of the outdoor industry would be handy, but not essential.
We prefer working face-to-face as we’re a pretty social bunch, but this role could be done on a flexi ‘from home’ basis a couple of days a week once you’ve got to grips with everything.
The Lowdown
Here are some of the things you’ll be working on:
Staffing activity sessions
Planning transport to and from activities
Booking transport to and from activities
Checking activity programmes are correctly staffed
Managing staff timesheets
Allocating a fair spread of hours to instructors
Changing staff timesheets
Clearly communicating timesheet changes to staff
Helping with kit logistics
Talk to Us
Full disclosure – this has always been a tricky role to fill. It’s quite a hard to define.
You could be an outdoorsy person or you could come from a logistics background.
Maybe you’re wanting to diversify your role as an outdoor instructor or you’re getting on a bit and your body needs a rest.
Either way, we’re open to all suggestions – we’ll even consider a split role where your part instructor / part operations assistant. What’s important is that you’re a nice human and easy to work with.
Accommodation
There are a number of options.
– We can help you source affordable local homestay accommodation.
– You are also welcome to camp at our campsite at a discounted weekly rate
– There is a double room with kitchenette available to rent onsite, which could be suitable for a couple working at Land & Wave
– Some people choose to house-share – we can put you in touch with like-minded people to explore this option
Contract Dates

End: Sept / Oct
